Organized people seem to have it all together. They dont seem to scramble at the last minute to find their keys, make lunches or be on time for appointments. How do they do it? For those who are constantly struggling this can be truly annoying! Read on to learn their secrets for getting organized and keeping things running smoothly.
The following three items are the most important and are never compromised. They not only show care for you and your family, but it leaves your home ready for unexpected company. These are the basics…..
1.) Safety.
All exits are fully accessible, all doors and windows open easily and completely and the paths to all of these exits are clutter free. There are no papers on / near the stove and items that are stacked, even if temporarily wont come tumbling down.
2.) Health.
All expired food and prescriptions are disposed of upon expiration. Guidelines for Food handling are followed.
3.) Cleanliness.
This includes the wiping of counters after use, dusting, vacuuming, dish washing regularly and scrubbing the bathroom and kitchen.
When you are comfortable with the above the following 3 principles are the organization policies of organized people…..
4.) Everything must have a home.
You need someplace to come home to and so do your things.
5.) Store like things together.
This makes it easier to find what you need when you need it. The hunting for things goes away. It also lets you know when supplies are running low so you dont keep buying extras unnecessarily.
6.) Make things easily accessible.
When you put things away, make sure you dont have to move a lot of other things to get to what you need.
And finally…. Its all about habits to keep things organized…
7.) Teach Others where things belong
You cant be the only go to person…. Everyone has to share the responsibility in staying organized by knowing where things belong.
8.)Have a daily pick up routine.
You own things so they can be used and enjoyed, but you cant leave everything out and about. Make a set time every day to put away what was taken out.
9.) Make Ruthless Decisions.
Yes, sometimes its hard to decide which items you no longer can keep. But… You have to decide which is more important… The item and having clutter or living organized. Organized people live within the boundaries of their homes storage areas and they are willing to make the ruthless decisions about letting things go.
10.) Make time for organizing.
Organizing is never done. We all accumulate new items. If you keep it all without getting rid of items or reorganizing when things get a messy you wont be able to keep organized.
Getting organized is about knowing how you want your home to look and function and getting on track to achieving that goal. It takes time, it takes discipline, and it takes making the commitment to making it happen. Stay tuned for more information…..
